Aleena Thomas

Aleena Thomas works as a Senior Policy Officer (Climate) at Vasudha Foundation, specialising in greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories and decarbonisation plans. She has contributed to state and district-level projects across Kerala, Odisha, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu (Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, and Rajapalayam LPA), focusing on sectors such as AFOLU, Waste, IPPU, and Energy. Aleena also serves as the liaison for Phase II of the Kerala GHG inventory project and leads the development of the Kerala GHG portal.
Aleena holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Delhi and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (Honors) from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. Before her work at Vasudha Foundation, she served as a researcher in Germany and South India for an international research project by GIZ in collaboration with the Centre for Rural Development, Berlin. This project focused on improving climate resilience through agroecology and adaptive policies in the agriculture-water nexus. She was also selected as a designated fellow of Cohort 3.0 of the Water Champions Youth Fellowship (2021) at the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), where she developed water-smart solutions for urban wastewater management.
