Pilot Initiatives for Localisation of Climate Action in Uttar Pradesh

On December 19, 2024, Vasudha Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (DoEFCC), Government of Uttar Pradesh, officially launched the ‘Climate Smart Action Plans for 43 Gram Panchayats’, the ‘Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Climate Smart Gram Panchayat Action Plans (CSGPAP)’, and the ‘Ayodhya City Climate Action Plan’. The launch event was graced by the Honourable Minister of Panchayati Raj, Shri Om Prakash Rajbhar, along with Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Kumar Singh and other senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh Government.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in localising climate action and represents two years of collaborative efforts between Vasudha Foundation, Gorakhpur Environmental Action Group (GEAG), DoEFCC, and other NGOs. The plans aim to integrate climate resilience into governance structures and pave the way for sustainable development across the state.

The event saw participation from key stakeholders, including senior officials from various Line Departments, Gram Pradhans, Panchayat Secretaries, NGOs, Think Tanks, and CSR representatives. In his keynote address, Shri Om Prakash Rajbhar emphasised the importance of embedding climate resilience into policies and called for collective efforts to transform Uttar Pradesh into a climate-smart state, assuring full support from the Department of Panchayati Raj.

This first-of-its-kind initiative underscores Vasudha Foundation’s commitment to facilitating impactful climate action on the ground. Moving forward, the we aims to expand these efforts, driving Uttar Pradesh toward becoming a climate-smart state.
